Yasiel Puig was signed as an International Free Agent in 2012 (7 YRs/$42 MIL).. He was 22 Years old last year when he exploded onto scene in the National League in 3 Slashing .319/.381/.544 – with 19 HRs, 42 RBI and 66 Runs Scored in his 1st 104 Games Played. In 2014, he has been a tad better all around year: (.313/.397/.529 – with 13 HRs and 55 RBI thus far), but has clubbed 53 Extra Base Hits (31 – 2B and 9 3B to go with his HRs) – which is about 10 more extra base knocks than in 2014, whereas the rest of the numbers are pretty identical.

Adrian Gonzalez (5/18/82) 1B: August 25, 2012: Traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers with players to be named later, James Loney and Allen Webster from the Boston Red Sox for Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez, Nick Punto and cash.
The Los Angeles Dodgers sent Rubby De La Rosa (October 4, 2012) and Jerry Sands (October 4, 2012) to the Boston Red Sox to complete the trade.

Josh Beckett (5/15/80) SP: LAD Career: GP – 35, 8 – 14 with a 3.39 ERA after a nice 2.88 ERA (and a no hitter in 20 Game Starts for 2014) before season ending injuries wiped out his campaign.
It was a trade that helped both franchises immediately. Boston won the 2013 World Series, and Los Angeles made it to Game #6 of the NLCS in the year following the trade.
Hanley Ramirez took over the reigns of leadership in LA in 2013, slashing .345/.402/.638 in half of a years worth of AB (306). It was only when Ramirez returned, that the Dodgers took off. After Kershaw, he was the teams MVP. He is signed for one more year – and you can bet he will be extended. This ends up being a proverbial ‘HR’ of a trade for LA – unless Eovaldi is a repeat ALL – Star in Miami. The team was 55 – 31 with him in the lineup and 37 – 39 without him. At the end of this year the SS is a Free Agent, but the Dodgers have the means and budget to sign the guy. HanRam has an .822 OPS during his 100 Games Played this season – and has nursed various injuries. He will still be one of the top Free Agent bats on the market this fall.
Hanley Ramirez (12/23/83) SS/3B: July 25, 2012: Traded by the Miami Marlins with Randy Choate to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Scott McGough (minors) and Nathan Eovaldi.
Nathan Eovaldi. (2/13/90) SP: Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 11th round of the 2008 amateur draft. Eovaldi is 7 – 13, with a 3.77 ERA for the Marlins in 30 Game Starts thus far.
Scott McGough (10/31/89) RP: Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 5th round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft.
McCough had a great year in the Minors for Jacksonville (AAA affiliate of the Marlins), and should be elevated to the big clubs soon.
Randy Choate (9/5/75) RP: October 29, 2012: Granted Free Agency. Choate appeared in 36 Games (4.05 ERA in 13.1 IP as a LHP specialist), in 2012 for the Dodgers (and led the NL in total APP during 2012, when he was with LAD/MIA.)
Juan Uribe (3/22/79) 2B/3B/SS: November 30, 2010: Signed as a Free Agent with the Los Angeles Dodgers. 3 YRs.$21.3 MIL. Re-upped for 2014 and 2015 for $6.5 MIL per year and $13 MIL overall.
Uribe signed a 3 YR/$21 MIL deal for 2011 – 2013. He Slashed .237/.295./.399 in three injury riddled campaigns – before he extended. 2013 saved it from a total bust, as he had a .769 OPS – with 12 HRs and 50 RBI – solidifying the hot corner for the team.
Uribe also hit a massively clutch HR in Game #4 for Los Angels, clinching their 1st RD series. The Veteran has made his hits count in the playoffs for the Giants, White Sox and Dodgers, hitting 5 HRs and 22 RBI for 134 AB in the playoffs.
Andre Ethier (4/10/82)) OF: December 13, 2005: Traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Milton Bradley and Antonio Perez.
Ethier’s LA Career: .288/.362/.832 – with 141 HRs and 587 RBI.
Milton Bradley as an A’s player: .279/.371//.818 – with 16 HRs and 59 RBI In 41 – before being traded to the Padres.
Antonio Perez had a cup of coffee with the A’s.
Winner of this trade was the Dodgers!
Andre Ethier finished 6th in NL MVP Voting during the 2009 season. It has been his best year to date. He hit 31 HRs, added 106 RBI, 76 XBH Overall and scored 92 Runs. He won a Silver Slugger Award for his efforts. Ethier was acquired through a chain of transactions that goes all the way back to when the team drafted Mike Piazza (who was traded for Gary Sheffield), who was traded for Andrew Brown from Atlanta, (who was later flipped for Milton Bradley from Cleveland, before lA turned around and traded Bradley to the A’s for Andre Ethier.) Too bad the LHB has really struggled over the last few years and is now stuck in a platoon in LF with Crawford.
Antonio Perez (1/26/80) SS/3B/2B: April 3, 2004: Traded by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Jason Romano.
Jason Romano. (6/24/79) SS/2B/OF: January 27, 2003: Traded by the Colorado Rockies to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Luke Allen.
Luke Allen (8/4/78) PH/LF: Signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as an amateur free agent in 1996.
All of these guys never played significantly for any of the clubs. Perez just happened to be traded in the A’s deal for Ethier.
Milton Bradley (4/15/78) OF/DH: April 3, 2004: Traded by the Cleveland Indians to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a player to be named later and Franklin Gutierrez. The Los Angeles Dodgers sent Andrew Brown (May 19, 2004) to the Cleveland Indians to complete the trade.
Franklin Gutierrez (2/21/83) CF: Signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as an amateur free agent in 2000.
This deal ends up being Franklin Gutierrez and Milton Bradley for Andre Ethier in essence. Win Los Angeles.
Andrew Brown (2/17/81) SP: January 15, 2002: Traded by the Atlanta Braves with Brian Jordan and Odalis Perez to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Gary Sheffield.
Brutal Trade for the Dodgers, letting go of Sheffield for a brutal few months of Jordan. There were just fortunate to acquire Ethier back later in the chain.
Gary Sheffield. (11/16/88) SS/3B/OF: May 14, 1998: Traded by the Florida Marlins with Manuel Barrios, Bobby Bonilla, Jim Eisenreich and Charles Johnson to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Mike Piazza and Todd Zeile.
Mike Piazza (9/14/68) C/1B: Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 62nd round of the 1988 amateur draft. Piazza was kept for only a few games, before being traded to the Mets for Preston Wilson.
While Preston Wilson struggled in Miami, he was used as a trade chip to acquire Juan Pierre (who helped them win a World Series in 2003).
Piazza was awesome in New York (.296/.371/.915) with 220 HRs and 655 RBI in 3478 AB – spanning 8 years with the New York Mets.
But to analyze the trade we are talking about, it was Sheffield in LA (He had 3 straight 30+ HR years, including a career high 43 in 2000. Sheffield slugged .998 in his 3 years in LAD.
The Dodgers were lucky to use a piece in the Atlanta trade coming back for Sheffield to acquire Ethier (via Milton Bradley).
Charles Johnson had 12 HRs and an OPS of .638 for the club, before being traded by the Dodgers.
The Dodgers beat the Marlins straight up in assets being traded – as Piazza ended up only netting the club Juan Pierre for a few years.
If you look at how the LA club did in having Sheffield for 3 years, compared to 8 for the Mets having Piazza, the Dodgers should have kept him.
Todd Zeile (9/19/65) C/1B/3B: December 8, 1996: Signed as a Free Agent with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Zeile had an .801 OPS for the Marlins for half of a season before being traded to the Rangers for two Minor Leaguers.
Jim Eisenreich (4/18/59) OF/1B: October 27, 1998: Granted Free Agency. Eisenrich hit .197 in 127 AB with LA before retiring.
Manuel Barrios (9/21/74) RP: August 10, 1998: Selected off waivers by the Florida Marlins from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Threw 1 IP for the Dodgers
Charles Johnson (7/20/71) C/PH: December 1, 1998: Traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers with Roger Cedeno to the New York Mets for Arnold Gooch (minors) and Todd Hundley.
Charles Johnson was traded by the Mets right away from Armando Benitez.
Roger Cedeno (8/16/74) OF: March 3, 1991: Signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as an amateur free agent.
Todd Hundley (5/27/69) C: October 27, 2000: Granted Free Agency. Hundley hit 48 HRs and added 125 RBI in this 2 year stretch for the Dodgers in 1998 and 1999. He did this in just 675 AB.
I call this trade a draw. Hundley provided a good Catcher for 2 years, filling the void vacated by Piazza, and Benitez (asset for Johnson) and Cedeno were key players on a Mets World Series Appearance in 2000.
Bobby Bonilla (2/23/63) 3B/RF/1B: November 11, 1998: Traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers to the New York Mets for Mel Rojas.
Mel Rojas had a 12.60 ERA for the squad in 5 IP. Bonilla did not have a triumphant return to the Big Apple, with a .160/.277/.579 – with 4 HRs and 18 RBI. This trade was a loser for both clubs too.
Mel Rojas. (12/10/66) RP: April 16, 1999: Traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers with Dave Mlicki to the Detroit Tigers for Aposto Garcia (minors), Richard Roberts (minors) and Robinson Checo.
Dave Mlicki had a 5.46 ERA in 67 Game Starts for the Tigers. Rojas was blown out of Detroit – with a 22.74 ERA in 6.1 IP. Robinson Checo had a 10.74 ERA in 15.2 IP for LAD. This trade is a tie for ineptness all around.
Dave Mlicki (6/8/68) SP: June 4, 1998: Traded by the New York Mets with Greg McMichael to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Brad Clontz and Hideo Nomo.
Mlicki was 7 – 4, with a 4.10 ERA in 20 Game Starts for the Dodgers.
Greg McMichael (12/1/66) RP: July 10, 1998: Traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers with cash back to the New York Mets for Brian Bohanon.
Greg McMichael had a 4.40 ERA in 12 Games for the Dodgers – and then a 4.06ERA in his return to the Mets for the 2nd half. In 1999, he had an ERA of 4.82
Brian Bohanon. (8/1/68) RP: October 27, 1998: Granted Free Agency – after sporting a sparkling 2.40 ERA in 14 Game Starts
Winner of that trade was Los Angeles. (Bohanon for McMichael)
Hideo Nomo. (8/31/68) SP: February 8, 1995: Signed as a Free Agent with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Nomo was released by the Mets after a 4.82 ERA in 16 Game Starts.
Brad Clontz (4/25/71) SP: April 9, 1998: Signed as a Free Agent with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Clontz only threw a few innings for the Mets.
Winner of the Mlicki and McMichael for Nomo and Clontz was the Dodgers based on Mlicki’s good year for the team.
Brian Jordan (4/29/67) OF: October 28, 2003: Granted Free Agency.
Odalis Perez (6/11/78) SP: July 25, 2006: Traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers with Blake Johnson (minors), Julio Pimentel (minors) and cash to the Kansas City Royals for Elmer Dessens.
Dessens had a 3.74 ERA in 8 Game Starts and relief work for the Dodgers (108 IP).
Odalis Perez authored a 10 – 15 record, and a 5.59 ERA for KC. The other two guys never made the majors. Winner was slightly LA.

Brady Clark (4/18/73) OF/PH: June 20, 2007: Released by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Clark hit for a .601 OPS in just 58 AB for the Dodgers before he was released.
Elmer Dessens. had a 6.60 ERA in 12 Games for the Brewers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers sent Trayvon Robinson to the Seattle Mariners. The Boston Red Sox sent Chih-Hsien Chiang (minors) to the Seattle Mariners. The Seattle Mariners sent Erik Bedard and Josh Fields to the Boston Red Sox.
Stephen Fife (10/5/86) SP: In 17 Games Pitches in (15 GS) – Fife has an ERA of 3.66 in 91 IP.
Juan Rodriguez (12/12/88) RP: Was promoted to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 2012 – after a solid year with Great Lakes. He has battled injury and conduct detrimental to the team suspensions. Hasn’t played since.
Trayvon Robinson (9/1/87) OF: Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 10th round of the 2005 amateur draft. Had a .602 OPS in 288 AB for the Mariners so far. He re-signed with the franchise in Jan of 2014 – and is in AAA with Albuquerque.
LA has really won this trade and Stephen Fife looks like he might be a good thrower.

2014 ( 3 slash of .283/.347/.468 with 14 HRs and 52 RBI in 389 AB) has seen the former ALL – Star gain a bit of power, in what has been his best stretch of play since 2011 – early 2012. In 2012’s 1st , Kemp hit .355/.444/.719 with 12 HRs and 28 RBI in his 1st 121 AB in 2012. The following season, he managed 73 Games Played (290 AB) – only hitting 6 HRs and adding 33 RBI – while Slashing .270/.328/.395. He fought a swollen left knee – and had a problematic shoulder injury that led to a season ending surgery on it. Kemp is signed through the 2019 season. He was a 6th RD Draft Pick of the club in 2003, Kemp has 2 ALL – Star Appearances, 2 Gold Gloves and Silver Sluggers, while he has reeled in #10 and #2 Voting Finishes for NL MVP in 2009 and 2011 respectively.
